Because the MRI uses magnets, some metal implants prohibit MRI exams. You cannot be examined if you have any of the following:
  • Pacemaker
  • Brain aneurysm clips
  • Metal fragments in one or both eyes
  • Inner ear implants
  • Implanted spinal cord stimulator
  • Neuro-stimulator (TENS units)
  • Implanted drug infusion device You should also advise the X-Ray Associates Technologist if you are pregnant, breast feeding, or if you have anemia or any diseases that affects red blood cells.

There’s no need for any special preparation when come in for your Open MRI. You can eat or drink anything prior to the exam and take your prescription medication, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Just wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, like a sweat suit, without any metal snaps or zippers. Dressing gowns, without metal fasteners, are available, if you prefer.
