WHAT TO EXPECT
The exam is quite simple and takes anywhere between 30-45 minutes, depending on the type of information your doctor requires.
During the exam, you wont feel anything. You will only hear a moderate "drumming" sound that comes from the magnet. If you wish, you may listen to your preferred radio station or bring along your favorite CD for the exam. You just lie still, and the machine does the rest.
You may leave immediately following the exam because there are no side effects.
In some cases, an image enhancement agent may be injected to provide a better image. This is determined by the type of exam your physician has ordered and the part of the body being examined. This will be discussed with you prior to the actual exam.
The results of the exams ordered as STAT procedures will be faxed or phoned to the prescribing physicians office promptly. Generally, most other results will be read and reported the same day.
